Chelsea took a giant step closer to Champions League qualification with a convincing 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
A goal in each half from the in-form Kai Havertz sealed the points for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who keep their tails on third-placed Leicester ahead of a massive Champions League semi-final second-leg tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Kai Havertz put the Blues ahead after ten minutes following an exquisite piece of skill from Mason Mount.
Havertz got his brace in the 49th minute after some excellent link-up with Timo Werner to slot past Alphonse Areola.
Chelsea countered quickly a couple minutes later with Kai Havertz driving the Blues forward. Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech combined but the former’s low, drilled ball across the box was too heavy for Timo Werner.
But the Blues were ahead after ten minutes through Havertz. Mount delicately pulled the ball out the air, continuing to show his individual excellence, and his perfectly weighted ball fed the German through who slotted past Alphonse Areola.
His touch and through ball to set Havertz through on goal for the opener were world-class and he dominated the middle of the park throughout.
Chelsea’s star man on the pitch, the 21-year-old continued his recent good form by bagging a brilliant brace after picking up through balls from Mount and Werner and he will be a major threat to the Real Madrid defence on Wednesday.
Mason Mount and Kai Havertz have both been directly involved in 16 goals in all competitions so far.
While Mount is definitely having the better season, It’s fair to say that Havertz is finding his form game by game and is only improving. This two will be crucial for us in the coming years.
